The studio offers a firing service for those who make pottery during our open studio hours, work from home or use clay in their artistic practice.

You can either fire your pieces and pay per kilo, or book an entire kiln, and we ask that you pay your firing fees upfront. We will email you when your work has been fired to collect your pieces. We do bisque firings at 1000° and glaze firings at 1220°.

Our two kilns, Gertrude & Bernard, are amongst the most important pieces of equipment in our studio, and there are some rules to follow if you wish to use the firing service. Please read them carefully, as not respecting them may result in poor results or additional costs:

As not all clay bodies are meant to be fired at the same temperatures, it is crucial that you always let us know which clay and/or glazes you are using by showing us the labels of the materials used to ensure that all materials are compatible with our firing schedules.

Your pieces must be fully dry, and the walls no thicker than 3cm to prevent explosions. The surface in contact with the kiln shelves must be free of glaze and have at least 1cm of clearance between the base and the glazed area to avoid damage to the pieces and the kiln in case the glaze runs down during firing. The pieces must be marked with your name, signature or initials in order to be recognizable.

The fired pieces will be kept at the studio for a maximum of 3 months before being given away or sold. A drop-off and pick-up time will be arranged for full kiln bookings.

The studio cannot be held responsible or liable for any unexpected or unsatisfactory results of your work such as cracks, explosions, glaze/clay melting, bubbling, warping, discolorations, etc.

I treat all my equipment with the utmost care, and I expect you to do the same. Therefore, if any damages occur to the kiln itself while you are using it, including its shelves, kiln furniture, softbrick, controller, or heating elements, you will be required to compensate all replacement costs for such damages.

Please note that the firing costs entail not only the electricity, but also the labour for loading and unloading the kiln, logistical work, costs for kiln maintenance, spare parts etc.

Costs: bisque firing 8€ per 1kg | glaze firing 12€ per 1kg | large kiln 150€ | small kiln 90€

Damaged kiln shelf – 10-100€ depending on the damage (due to glaze running for example)

Damage inside the kiln itself – 500€* depending on the damage
